Apprentice Welder/Fabricator

What does the job involve?

One day a week at college, and four days working in our workshop.

• Working safely at all times, complying with health and safety legislation, regulations, organisational and environmental requirements and ISO standards.
• Planning and preparing for metal fabrication activities, checking materials as per the detailed engineering drawings. We use carbon steel, stainless steels and high nickel alloys.
• Setting up, checking and adjusting equipment for safe and reliable fabrication of metal products or components, maintaining equipment in a reliable and safe condition and using correct methods for the moving and handling of resources and materials.
• Interpreting technical drawings, patterns, templates, and specifications to mark out, produce and assemble complex fabricated products to meet required specifications and quality standards.
• Operating equipment for cutting, drilling, shaping, and preparing of metal materials during fabrication activities and operating welding equipment to join metal parts using TIG and MIG processes to the standards required by specifications.
• Restoring the work area and equipment to a safe and reliable condition upon completion of the activity and complete documentation at the appropriate stages of the work activity.

What kind of person are we looking for?

You must be 18 by the beginning of September this year, due to our insurance requirements. You will have completed your GCSE education, passing at least four subjects, including Maths, English and Science, and will have attended college to do a relevant course afterwards.

You will be genuinely interested in the practical side of engineering or hands-on activities. For example, we'd like to hear if you enjoy figuring out how things work; making things, fixing bikes or about a practical project you've done at school or home, or a club you've been involved with.

You must live within a 45 mins commute of our Stamford office and must be able to drive on the A1, as we are not on any bus or train routes. You must be willing to travel to Leicester for a 42 month day release college course 'Engineering Metal Fabricator Advanced Apprenticeship'.
