Department Overview

The Office of the General Counsel supports the Board, the CEO, CFO, and other Executive Committee members, and the wider organisation by ensuring a strong governance and compliance framework, overseeing legal and regulatory adherence, and maintaining a positive compliance culture.

 

Job purpose

The Compliance Specialist will be responsible for developing, embedding and overseeing the Company’s compliance framework to ensure adherence to applicable legal, regulatory and ethical standards. The role will provide trusted advice to the business, manage key compliance risks, and support a culture of integrity and accountability across the organisation.  This role suits an experienced compliance professional who understands regulatory requirements and can operate with a high degree of autonomy, while working pragmatically with stakeholders across the business.

 

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain compliance policies and standards covering Anti‑Bribery and Corruption (ABC), Anti‑Money Laundering (AML), sanctions, competition/antitrust law, modern slavery, failure to prevent fraud, and ethical conduct.
  • Own and continuously enhance compliance policies across all key regulatory areas.
  • Lead and challenge compliance with risk assessments, ensuring mitigations are effective and embedded.
  • Set the direction for compliance advice and training, ensuring relevance and consistency across the business.
  • Own governance of gifts, hospitality and conflicts frameworks, providing oversight and challenge.
  • Oversee and assure the effectiveness of the Code of Conduct and whistleblowing arrangements, including investigation oversight where appropriate.
  • Own compliance reporting for senior leadership and act as a key point of contact for regulatory engagement.

 

Experience and Qualifications

Critical skills and experience

  • Professional qualifications (e.g., ICA, CCEP, legal qualifications).
  • Experience in corporate compliance within UK‑listed or multinational organisations.
  • Working knowledge of core regulatory and compliance frameworks, including ABC, AML, competition law and sanctions.
  • Ability to interpret legal and regulatory requirements and translate them into practical, business‑focused guidance.
  • Experience in developing and operating compliance programmes.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.

 

Additional requirements 

  • Experience supporting investigations, whistleblowing processes or regulatory interactions.
  • Experience designing or delivering compliance training.
  • Exposure to regulated or multinational environments.
