FEED SAFETY & COMPLIANCE MANAGER
Blackburn, Lancashire | £40,000
An established and growing manufacturer within the pet food sector is looking to appoint an experienced Feed Safety & Compliance Manager to join its Quality & NPD function.
This is a key management position with responsibility for ensuring the business maintains the highest standards of food safety, regulatory compliance and quality across its manufacturing operations.
Reporting to the Head of Quality & NPD, you will take ownership of feed safety systems and standards, leading their implementation, ongoing compliance and continuous improvement. You will also maintain an audit-ready culture and ensuring products consistently meet regulatory, customer and quality requirements.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and continuously improving feed safety and compliance standards across manufacturing operations
- Maintaining feed safety programmes including HACCP, GMP and recall procedures
- Monitoring changes to relevant feed legislation and ensuring internal policies and procedures remain compliant
- Leading hazard analysis, preventive control reviews and process-control validation
- Overseeing environmental monitoring, allergen control and cross-contamination prevention
- Supporting the development and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS), SOPs, work instructions and quality documentation
- Leading internal audits and supporting third-party, regulatory and customer audits
- Maintaining audit-ready standards in line with BRC/GFSI requirements
- Acting as a key point of contact during regulatory inspections and managing subsequent actions
- Managing CAPA, non-conformances, deviations, product investigations and feed-safety-related complaints
- Leading root cause analysis and implementing effective preventive measures
- Managing product recall and withdrawal processes when required
- Leading and developing the HACCP team
- Developing and delivering feed safety and GMP training
- Promoting a proactive feed safety culture throughout the business
- Working cross-functionally with operational, technical and management teams to identify risks and implement improvements
- Managing and developing a direct report
About You
We are looking for an experienced food/feed safety or quality professional with the technical knowledge and leadership capability to take ownership of a critical compliance function.
You should have:

5+ years' experience within food or feed safety, quality assurance or regulatory compliance
- Strong working knowledge of HACCP, GMP and relevant food/feed safety legislation and standards
- Experience of regulatory, third-party and internal audits
- Experience managing CAPA and corrective/preventive actions
- Auditing experience or a relevant Lead Auditor qualification
- Strong knowledge of ingredient safety, traceability and supplier verification
- The ability to interpret and apply relevant feed legislation
- Experience working with technical documentation and Quality Management Systems
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence colleagues across different functions
- The confidence to make sound decisions under pressure, particularly during audits, incidents or recalls
- Experience delivering training and embedding a strong safety and compliance culture
Experience within pet food or animal feed manufacturing would be particularly advantageous.
Desirable Experience
It would also be beneficial if you have:
- A degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology or a related discipline
- GFSI certification audit experience, such as BRC, SQF or FSSC
- Lead Auditor certification in areas such as HACCP, ISO 22000 or GMP
- Experience of extrusion, rendering, thermal processing or other pet food manufacturing technologies
- A track record of successfully implementing system and process improvements
