About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Process Safety Manager to lead Calor’s Process Safety function. This pivotal role is responsible for delivering process safety expertise, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring Calor operates in full compliance with all relevant regulatory frameworks and our Process Safety Policy.

As the Process Safety Manager, you will provide leadership and direction across Calor’s operational network, ensuring that process safety risks are effectively identified, managed, and mitigated. You will also play a key role in maintaining Calor’s reputation for safety excellence and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Process Safety team to achieve objectives aligned with Calor’s goals, regulatory compliance requirements, and SHV Energy’s ODPS policy.

  • Coordinate hazard reviews, human factors assessments, and occupied building risk assessments to ensure timely and competent completion.

  • Maintain Calor’s process safety risk register, ensuring hazards are identified, appropriate layers of protection are established, and controls are effectively monitored.

  • Lead and participate in hazard study teams (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, HTA, HEA, PHR) to manage on-site risks.

  • Collate and report leading and lagging Process Safety Performance Indicators (PSPIs) monthly.

  • Lead and review process safety incident investigations and near-miss analyses to identify and implement corrective actions.

  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of COMAH Safety Reports in line with COMAH 2015 Regulations.

  • Conduct and lead internal process safety audits, and support external verification and audit processes.

  • Support emergency preparedness by developing and testing emergency plans and monitoring PSPIs to ensure site readiness.

  • Collaborate with SHV Energy to support and shape process safety initiatives, ensuring timely submission of ODPS reports.

  • Liaise with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to coordinate COMAH intervention plans and manage follow-up actions.

  • Work closely with the Engineering team to align on process safety priorities, investment planning, engineering standards, and asset integrity strategies.

Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience in Process Safety Management within high-hazard industries.

  • Proven leadership in hazard studies, including HAZOP, PHR, PHA, SWIFT, HTA/HEA, OBRA, LOPA, and SIL assessments.

  • Strong background in conducting both qualitative and quantitative risk assessments.

  • Experienced in process safety auditing and incident investigation.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and test emergency response plans.

  • Proficiency in bowtie analysis and hazard management for COMAH facilities.

Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of COMAH 2015 Regulations, UKLPG Codes of Practice, EEMUA, and CDOIF guidance.

  • Strong grasp of oil and gas process safety principles, including the origins and impacts of major accident hazards (MAHs) and major accidents to the environment (MATTEs).

Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Production Engineering.

  • Chartered Engineer status (preferably IChemE).

  • Advanced Risk Assessment qualifications (LOPA, PHA, FMEA, HAZID, HAZOP, etc.).

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Process Safety Management.

  • Certified Process Safety Auditor (CPSA) – e.g., OSHA 3132 PSM or CCPS-certified Process Safety Professional.
