SDUK's brands include the Nation’s favourite cheese brand Cathedral City plus other well-known butter & spreads (Clover, Country Life, Vitalite, Utterly Butterly), functional ingredients and dairy free products.

This site at Hawes remains the bastion of a 1,000-year long cheese making heritage of making wensleydale cheese, with this production supervisor role leading a team of 15 passionate and driven direct reports within the relevant production area, ensuring a safe working environment for us to drive towards achieving production plans.

Delivering a right first-time approach, you’ll be key in ensuring we are operating efficiently, with a review of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place to ensure they remain fit for purpose and reflect best practice, and delivering training to the relevant teams as we focus on ensuring colleagues are multi-skilled across different work stations.

You will be hands-on on the shop floor, communicating and leading production performance, and developing an understanding of all relevant legal requirements with H&S, hygiene, labelling, employment law, and other aspects – and sharing responsibility in these areas.

YOU’LL MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT MATTER BY…

• Managing the production areas, ensuring product quality, safety and all legal and health and food safety standards and requirements are adhered to
• Working closely with planning, demand, and supply teams to ensure daily plans are achieved
• Implementing and supporting cultural change across the site
• Developing and contributing towards improvements and standards and business improvement change initiatives
• Completing relevant paperwork and checks, and ensuring correct documentation filing for audit purposes, including production efficiencies, cleaning logs, progress, downtime, and identification of improvements
• Problem solving and troubleshooting in a fast-paced environment, ensuring the team investigates root causes and drives for resolutions, knowing when to escalate to other teams and senior management
• Engaging well with other departments – technical, planning, engineering, EHS to ensure delivery to plan and compliance
• Managing staff and allocating team members to each area as appropriate
• Supporting inductions and on-going training, development and performance management of teams through coaching, mentoring and 121 meetings
• Motivating the team and reporting achievements

YOU’RE BEST SUITED FOR THE ROLE IF YOU ARE…

• Experienced with leading and developing a team within a team leader or supervisor role, ideally within a fast-paced role within a regulated or compliance-driven environment (manufacturing, production, warehousing – other environments will also be considered)
• Comfortable with completing manual hands-on processes and being based on the shop floor
• Experience challenging the status quo to drive team performance results
• Comfortable with documentation and paperwork elements of the role
• A quick and willing learner to develop skills and knowledge within a new environment (covering HACCP, H&S, GMP, manual handling etc.)
• Someone who can demonstrate ability to act decisively, thinking systematically, and driven towards solving problems
